A Battery Thermal Management System, or BTMS, helps to maintain a battery pack at its optimal temperature range of 20°C to 45°C regardless of ambient temperature. For each vehicle design, the required performance and cycle life of the battery pack will be considered to determine the specific set point for the battery pack temperature.
Our Battery Thermal Management System is a complete thermal system solution that maintains the critical operating temperature ranges of vehicle batteries. Design solutions are available for both active and passive cooling circuits.
- Standard packaging or customized solutions available.
- Field proven patented master controls system.
- Specialized battery radiator and condenser specifically designed for BTMS applications.
- 2 - 10 kW cooling (typically 6 kW at 45ºC ambient).
- 6 kW passive cooling (10ºC ETD).
- 2 - 12 kW electric heating down to -20ºC coolant temperature.
- Total system weight < 60 kg.
- Operates native vehicle voltages.
- HV: 400 - 800 VDC.
- LV: 12 or 24 VDC option.
Main Elements Include:
- Cooling plate
- One chiller unit
- Or one radiator with fan and pump
- Controller (temperature or flow rate control)
- Other value-added accessories like hose, connector clamp, housing, valve, etc.
Typical Solutions & Configurations
Our battery thermal management system applies the best configuration to solve complex thermal profiles. Below are standard system architectures:
- Air cooling: Main elements include fan and heat sink.
- Liquid cooling (Radiator-based): Main elements include cooling plate, radiator, fan, pump, and controller device.
- Liquid cooling (Chiller-based): Main elements include cooling plate, chiller, and controller device.
- 2-Phase change cooling: Main elements include cooling plate and condenser.
- Refrigerant cooling: Main elements include cooling plate, condenser, and compressor.
- Custom alternative solutions: Such as immersion-style direct fluid cooling.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the optimal operating temperature for the battery pack?
The battery thermal management system (BTMS) is designed to maintain the battery pack within its optimal operating temperature range of 20°C to 45°C, ensuring maximum performance, safety, and cycle life.
What types of cooling methods do you support?
We support diverse cooling solutions tailored to specific vehicle demands, including standard air cooling, active and passive liquid cooling, two-phase change cooling, refrigerant cooling, and immersion cooling.
What materials are utilized for the cooling elements?
The cooling plates and elements are manufactured from high-quality Aluminum Alloy or Copper, using precision techniques like vacuum brazing and arc welding for durable, leak-proof configurations.
What are the electrical voltage requirements for the system?
The system operates natively on standard vehicle voltages. The High Voltage (HV) range is 400 - 800 VDC, and the Low Voltage (LV) options support 12 VDC or 24 VDC interfaces.
Can the cooling capacity and heating capacity be configured?
Yes, active cooling capacity ranges from 2 kW to 10 kW (typically 6 kW at 45ºC ambient), alongside electric heating modules ranging from 2 kW to 12 kW capable of working down to -20ºC coolant temperatures.
What is the total system weight constraint?
The total structure is engineered to stay lightweight, with the entire system assembly remaining under 60 kg (standard unit package weighs approximately 15 kg).
